Welcome Week

Check-in and Move-in, 9a.m. - 3:30p.m.

Welcome to life on campus! Check in at your assigned residence hall during your move-in time to receive your welcome packet. Current students will be on hand to help you move your belongings into the building.

If you are a commuter student, you can pick up your welcome packet at the MTCC Welcome Desk.

Did you play Talon’s Galactic Trip? Winning students can receive their prizes at the Welcome Desk.


Convocation and Reception, 4 - 6p.m.

Wednesday August 17th

Welcome Week

TRU the Musical (required for first-year students), 10–11:30 a.m.

TRU shines a light into the life of Truman, a man living with mental illness personified as a toxic relationship with the manipulative Her. New to the neighborhood, Isla is an artist seeking to rekindle her lost passion and overcome her anxieties. Their paths meet through a shared loss, and Truman and Isla are left to confront their personal struggles together. With the help of those around them, both set out in search of their guiding light.


Rise Against Hunger, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Audience: All students

Location: Hermann Hall, Ballroom

Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. Come give back by helping Illinois Tech pack meals for people facing hunger around the globe.

English Language Proficiency Test, 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Audience: Select international students (check your email to see if you need to take this test)

International students who are required to take the English Language Proficiency Test should do so at this time.


Leadership Academy Event (required for first-year students), 10–11 a.m.

Audience: Undergraduate first-year students only

Participate in team bonding activities and get a small taste of one of Illinois Tech’s biggest traditions—the Sophomore Leadership Retreat.

Come grab a snack and take a look at the new Elevate Underground Lab Space. See the shared lab space where many of our organizations work! Grab some food and walk around the space!

Take an extensive tour of the library on campus. See where you will spend time studying!


Summer Research Event, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Research is in our DNA at Illinois Tech! Hear about various research projects that students worked on during the summer, and grab lunch after.

Whether you’re thinking of going Greek or you’re still undecided, this is the event for you. Enjoy a lunch provided by all our Greek houses. All are welcome to attend!


Mentor Group Time, 5–7 p.m.

Audience: First-year students

Location: Ask your peer mentors

Meet with your peer mentors on campus and connect before school begins. Learn any tips and tricks they have.


Sunset Salsa with Student Recreation and Fitness, 7–8 p.m.

Learn to dance salsa and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere at sunset.
