Move-In, 9a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Location: Your Residence Hall

Audience: All students

Welcome to life on campus! Check in at your assigned residence hall during your move-in time to receive your welcome packet. Current students will be on hand to help you move your belongings into the building. If you are a commuter student, you can pick up your welcome packet at the MTCC Welcome Desk.

Did you play Talon’s Galactic Trip? Winning students can receive their prizes at the Welcome Desk.


Financial Aid Corner, 9a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Location: Blue Room, MTCC

Audience: All students

Meet the staff from the financial aid and student accounting teams to review your financial aid offer and billing statement.


Convocation, 3p.m.

Location: Hermann Hall Auditorium

Audience: All students, Required for First Year Students

Convocation, along with Commencement, bookends the college experience for our students. Join us for your official welcome to Illinois Tech by students, faculty and staff. Dinner will follow, families are welcome.


Grad Student Mixer, 5:30 - 7p.m.

Location: The Bog (lower level of Hermann Hall)

Audience: Graduate Students Only

We are excited you decided to continue your education with us. Come join staff, faculty, and other graduate students and get to know the Illinois Tech community!


Hall Meeting, 9 - 10p.m.

Location: Your Residence Hall Floor

Audience: Undergraduate Students

Living on campus? Attend this mandatory hall meeting to meet your resident adviser and other students in your residence hall. You’ll learn about hall expectations, how to navigate on-campus living, and more!

International Student Check-in

Monday - Friday, 9a.m. - 5p.m.

Location: The McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC)

All incoming international students with an approved F-1 or J-1 visa stamp, including international students who are transferring to Illinois Tech from another university, are required to check in with the Office of Global Services. The suggested timeline to check-in is within 24 hours of arriving in the United States. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email OGS at global@iit.edu

Welcome Week 2023


First-Year Elevate (FYE) Kickoff, 11a.m.–12:30p.m.

Audience: Undergraduate first-year students only, Required Event

Meet your first-year mentor and mentor group at the official kickoff for the First-Year Elevate (FYE) program!  It’s the perfect way to make new campus friendships! 


FYE Lunch, 12:30–1:30p.m.

Location: McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) The Commons

Audience: Undergraduate first-year students only, Required Event

Have lunch with our FYE leaders and fellow first-year students.


Introduction to the Bronzeville Community, 1:30–2 p.m.

Silent Disco: Sponsored by Union Board and Student Government Association, 9–11 p.m.

Join Union Board and Student Government Association to hear the sick beats of two DJs through a silent disco. Grab headphones and get dancing!

Wednesday, August 16th

Welcome Week 2023

TRU the Musical, 10–11:30a.m.

Location: Hermann Hall Auditorium

Audience: All students, Required Event for First Year Students

This one hour presentation features songs from the award-winning musical TRU performed by Chicago and New York based artists, and conversations with Gosz and Fotos as they unpack the origins of their own mental health journeys through the medium of musical theatre, while encouraging students to find their own ways to share their stories and speak their truths.


Rise Against Hunger, 11:30a.m.–1p.m.

Location: Hermann Hall Ballroom

Audience: All students

Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. Come give back by helping Illinois Tech pack meals for people facing hunger around the globe.

Audience: All students

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting their first carnival! Join them to learn more about our athletic teams while competing in some fun games. 


The BOG Party, 8-11p.m.

Location: The Bog (lower level of Hermann Hall)

Join us at Illinois Tech's famous BOG. Enjoy arcade games, bowling, great food,  a live band. Enjoy all the BOG has to offer!

Welcome Week 2023

English Language Proficiency Test, 8:30a.m.–11a.m.

Audience: Select international students 

International students who are required to take the English Language Proficiency Test should do so at this time. Check your student email to see if you need to take this test. 


Leadership Academy Event, 10–11a.m.

Location: Gunsaulus Hall Lawn Rain Location: Hermann Hall Ballrom

Audience: Undergraduate first-year students only, Required Event 

Participate in team bonding activities and get a small taste of one of Illinois Tech’s biggest traditions—the Sophomore Leadership Retreat.


Elevate Underground Tour, 11a.m.–12p.m.

Check out the Elevate Underground Lab Space, which is our shared lab space where many of our organizations work! 


Neighborhood Trolley Tour, 1–5 p.m.

Location: East 33rd Street, south entrance of MTCC by the sand volleyball courts

Audience: All students

The Office of Community Affairs is offering a historic trolley tour of Illinois Tech’s neighborhood, Bronzeville! Tours will depart at 1 PM and 3 PM and will last a total of two hours.

Stop by to learn more about the resources available at the library and enjoy a tour of the building. See where you will spend time studying! After your tour, stick around for more events at the Galvin Library. 


Summer Research Expo, 10a.m.–1p.m.

Research is in our DNA at Illinois Tech! Hear about various research projects that students worked on during the summer.


Dogs with Dogs, 1–2p.m.
